Acute Care Facility

Inpatient acute care, and intermediate care services, are provided in a 37- bed facility - which includes a 6 bed Intensive Care Unit.

The facility provides medical/surgical services relating to different specialties, and the various units are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The acute care area is supported by 57 active physicians who have admitting privileges at the hospital.

Patients are received directly through the emergency room, or by personal physician’s orders.

Continuing Care Center

The Continuing Care (skilled nursing) Center is a 66 bed facility for both short-term rehabilitation and long-term placement. The facility is staffed by Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants and Restorative Nursing Assistants.

The unit provides skilled nursing and rehabilitative services daily for residents who require an inpatient treatment program, with oversight provided by a Medical Director. Services provided include but are not limited to; internal feeding, rehabilitation therapy, I.V. therapy, terminal care, and post surgical care.

Emergency Room

The Emergency Department is licensed as a 24 – hour Stand-By Emergency treatment facility. The Department works with other hospital departments to ensure that appropriate, timely diagnostic procedures are obtained and patient disposition from the department is based on his or her plan of care.

The department provides evaluation and treatment to patients of various ages and varying levels of illness from minor to critical.

Laboratory Services

The clinical laboratory department provides comprehensive testing and blood banking services for all patients utilizing the facility. The department is accredited by the JCAHO and is registered under the Department of Health Services. Microbiology, Bacteriology, Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Serology, and Blood Banking services are available through the lab for both inpatients and outpatients.

Procedures include obtaining blood specimens, analyzing blood and body fluids, and culturing body substances to isolate and identify pathogens. Relationships with outside reference laboratory allows for completion of any laboratory test in a timely manner via computerized interface. The outside reference laboratory is approved by the medical staff and is accredited and state certified.

Radiology/Diagnostic Imaging

The Radiology/ Diagnostic Imaging Services department is a comprehensive service providing sophisticated clinical application of imaging technology for the inpatient and outpatient population of the hospital.

Radiology/Imaging Services are provided for all ages and include Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, CT, MRI, Mammography, and Ultrasound. The department provides support to Emergency Department, ICU, Surgery, and portable services to all patient care areas.

Cardiopulmonary/Respiratory

The cardiopulmonary department provides optimum assistance to nurses and physicians in maintaining preventative and restorative health needs for patients. The patient population served by the department consists of newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients requiring cardiac, respiratory testing or treatment to maintain optimum physiological maintenance of the cardiac and respiratory systems.

Procedures performed by the department include arterial blood testing, electro-cardiograms, advanced cardiac life support procedures, pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy, peak flow analysis, thallium stress testing, treadmill and breathing treatments including ventilator care. All procedures and treatments are performed upon the prescription and under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Surgery/Anesthesia

Ojai Valley Community Hospital performs approximately 1200 major and 500 minor surgeries and endoscopies annually, with 850-900 performed as outpatient procedures and 300-350 as inpatient procedures. The department is staffed with physicians, RNs, Surgical Technicians, and Central Sterile Technicians.

Conditions and diagnostics treated in the department include infant to geriatric patients undergoing gynecological, ENT, general. plastic, urological, orthopedic, podiatric, ophthalmologic and dental procedures.

Various types of anesthesia care is provided, including general, spinal, epidural, regional and local.

Rehabilitation / Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapies

The rehabilitation services department of the Ojai Valley Community Hospital is available for physical, occupational and speech therapies as ordered for acute inpatients, outpatients, and Skilled Nursing Center residents. The department also offers acupuncture services on an as-scheduled basis.

Conditions and diagnoses treated include but are not limited to orthopedic conditions, cerebral vascular accidents (strokes), and neurological conditions. Therapists collaborate with other health professionals of OVCH to deliver a care plan for facilitating patient’s return to his/her optimum state of wellness.

Multi-Specialty Clinic

The Ojai Valley Community Hospital operates a multi-specialty clinic, which brings in additional outside specialists to service the needs of our community.

Currently the clinic offers specialists in Urology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Podiatry, and Integrative Medicine. Each specialist maintains certain set times and days in the week when they are available.

Pharmacy

Pharmaceutical services are available to all hospital units. The Department is organized to provide pharmaceutical services directed to meet the needs of the hospital’s patients. Services are directed toward providing care of patients in all phases of development with emphasis on the following medical services: emergency services, cardiovascular, adult internal medicine, and care of the elderly with acute/chronic medical conditions.

The pharmacy department is responsible for monitoring all medications in the Oak View Family Practice, the hospital’s rural health clinic.

Oak View Family Practice– Rural Health Clinic

In a continuing effort to provide comprehensive health care in the Ojai Valley, Ojai Valley Community Hospital owns and operates a rural health clinic in the adjacent community of Oak View. Oak View Family Practice is a full service clinic serving the infant through geriatric population, providing community health care on a walk-in or by appointment basis.

Clinic services are provided for persons of all ages and include, but are not limited to, well baby care, childhood immunizations, school physicals, pre and post natal care, and diagnostic, treatment and preventative medicine.

Dietary and Nutrition Services

Dietary Services is responsible for providing the highest quality food services possible to all patients, both in the acute hospital and continuing care center, to personnel and visitors. Cost effective, nutritious, high quality meals are prepared and delivered daily to patient care and public dining areas.

Nutritional care is planned, administered, and evaluated by a Clinical Registered Dietitian, according to individual patient needs. The Department assists in the development of criteria for identifying patients at nutritional risk and communicating these criteria to the health care team. The dietitian performs nutritional assessments on all appropriate patients.

Gift Shop

The hospital gift shop has an assortment of cards, sundry items, and gifts available for purchase. The shop is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm.
